Charles is an undergraduate student in Materials Sciences and Engineering at Northwestern University in Everston, Illinois, USA. He is a participant in Tyndall National Institute's 10 week summer bursary programme for undergraduates, where he is working with Jonathan Ward to develop microsphere lasers. Past projects include a molecular dynamics simulation of silicon nanowires and and modelling of strained germanium vicinal surface energies, both relating to the formation of Ge/Si quantum dots.
