Quantum Engineering Workshop

We are involved in a number of research projects.  The primary remit of our research group is to study physics at the quantum level and to explore novel quantum engineering strategies.  For the most up-to-date information on our research please visit the Publications and Presentations links.

Cold atoms   *** Cold Atom Movie ***
Our cold atom work was featured on RTE Radio 1's science broadcast, The Quantum Leap,  on 10th November 2005.  This show is presented by Mary Mulvihill and you can hear it by clicking here
Microsphere Lasers

Congratulations to Jonathan Ward who won Joint First Prize for a Student Poster at the 9th Institutes of Technology Science and Computing Research Colloquium held in IT Carlow from 26th-27th May 2005.  The title of Jonathan's poster was "Characterisation of Er:ZBNA microspherical lasers".  Tim Mapperson accepted the award on Jonathan's behalf.
Coherent Control - project completed in 2007.
This is a joint project with Cork Institute of Technology, University College Cork and the Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics funded by the Royal Irish Academy (Science Foundattion Ireland).   In summer 2005 we were delighted to host Ms. Yueping Niu and Profs. Shiqi Jin and Shangqing Gong in Cork for three weeks.  In April 2006, Profs. Jin and Gong returned to Ireland with Mr. Qian Jun.   We returned to Shanghai in  2006 and 2007 to continue our collaboration on the generation of superposition states of a single atom in an array of microtraps.
