My PhD project is aimed at calculating transverse intensity, linear polarization, Faraday rotation and circular polarization profiles of jets carrying various helical B-field configurations, for comparison with observations. The proposed 18-22cm MOJAVE-I images should provide excellent observational material for my analysis, due to the very good resolution that will be obtained across the extended jets of many of the MOJAVE-I AGNs.

These images were generated using a theoritical model based on a helical magnetic field of constant pitch angle and uniform flux density threading a cylinder. Gamma is the helical pitch angle, delta is the line of sight angle and f is the degree of entanglement of the total magnetic field.
The blue plot shows fractional polarization while the other plot shows both total intensity and polarized intensity. The black line is total intensity, the purple region is transverse polarization intensity and the green is longitudinal polarization intensity.
In the second image the degree of entanglement has been increased to 0.5. This results in both a decrease in polarization intensity and the assymetry in the total intensity.
