Brief Biography of Prof. David Nikogosyan

I was born in Yerevan, Armenia, USSR on 27 August, 1946. In 1963-1969, I studied at the Physics Department of Moscow State University. I received both my diploma in physics (1969) and Ph.D. degree in quantum electronics (1977) from Lomonosov Moscow State University. In 1969 1996, I worked in the Institute of Spectroscopy, Russian Academy of Sciences, Troitzk, Moscow Region (first as a Junior Research Associate, from 1982 as a Senior Research Associate, and from 1989 as a Leading Research Associate). In 1988 I obtained a Doctor of Science degree in chemical physics in the Karpov Institute of Physical Chemistry, Moscow. In 1997 I joined the Department of Physics of University College Cork, Ireland, where I am working until now. My research interests include nonlinear optics, fibre optics, lasers, quantum electronics, femtosecond spectroscopy and multiquantum photochemistry. I am the author of 160 peer-reviewed scientific publications in different peer-reviewed journals, including 12 reviews and 8 books. I have also published more than 100 conference reports. In 2004 I was elected a Fellow Member of the Optical Society of America.

Teaching Experience

In UCC during 1998 2001, I read a course for 4th year students "Applied Nonlinear Optics", based on my book published by Springer-Verlag.
I supervised four Ph.D students: Dr. Dimitar Angelov from Bulgaria (habilitated in 1981), who is now a CNRS Director of Research in Ecole Normale Superieure de Lyon, France, Dr. Gagik G. Gurzadyan from Armenia (1983), who works now in the Chemistry Department of Munich Technical University, Germany, Dr. Alexander A. Oraevsky from Russia (1986), who is a Vice President for Research & Development at Fairway Medical Technologies, Inc., Houston, USA and Dr. Adrian Dragomir from Romania (2002), who works in the European Patent Office, the Hague, Netherlands; and about fifteen M.Sc. students.
